Effectively Curating Your Closet

Let’s talk curating your closet with the essentials for this season.  I will start this conversation with my ‘buy less, buy quality’ mantra.  It has served me well over the years.  Start with the white t-shirt.  IYKYK.  That white t-shirt is the start of many perfect outfits.  My suggestion is to spend money here.  I know most of you will say:  "Really?  Spend a lot on a white t-shirt?"  YES!  Mary Kate and Ashley Olson started their clothing line The Row because one of them couldn’t find a good quality t-shirt.  So it is that important to your staple wardrobe.  My staple white t-shirt is Brunello Cuccinelli.  The Row also has perfect white t-shirts and if you really want to budget on this item, go to JCrew.  They make a great t-shirt.  Be sure it is fitted, not too tight and not cropped.  And when you find the perfect white one, also buy a black one.  Add to this, a pair of black pants and a black mini.  My favorite black pants are Louis Vuitton.  I have literally fallen in LOVE with the ‘Marc Jacobs era’ pants from Louis Vuitton circa 2012-14.  And on the black skirt you can skimp a little on the cost.  Again, try JCrew or Theory.  Next, a blue button down long sleeve shirt, perhaps a Dolce & Gabbana denim ‘shacket’.  Add to that a great pair of ecru jeans and white shorts.  As far as jackets and blazers, my recommendation is a sleeveless black blazer and an oversized beige blazer.  A great beige blazer can add that perfect sophistication to a cotton or silk sundress and a black sleeveless blazer could add some flair to those ecru jeans and some black kitten heels.  Now on the subject of shoes,  luckily kitten heels are all the rage again.  MEOW!  And add a pair of neutral sneakers.  I have been scouring the resale market for a great pair of Adidas Sambas.  I hope you have better luck than me, I LOVE them!!  Add a great pair of ballet flats/slippers for everyday wear and a pair of ivory or taupe flat sandals, I have a pair of Ferragamo ones in my store and I wish they were my size!!  You can wear these shoes with practically anything in your closet.  I didn’t forget about jeans.  Denim has become such a part of our routine and I truly believe a pair of great jeans can make or break your mood and outlook on your day.  So spend a good part of your budget finding that perfect pair.  Comfort over anything here.  Its 2024, jeans aren’t just cotton anymore, they have lycra and elastane and whatever they do to cotton to make the fabric stretchy and comfortable.  Have a short sleeve black sweater on hand and also a long sleeve or ¾ sleeve striped sweater to add some whimsy to your look.  We are almost there, now lets add a handbag or two.  Bucket bags are back in this season, think Louis Vuitton and you will need a black everyday bag.  If you have the means, go with a Bottega Veneta intreciatto leather crossbody or shoulder bag.  It’s an investment piece that is so versatile and can span all seasons.  Lastly you will need a timeless trench coat for those chilly Spring evenings or that late Fall football game.  Invest in a classic Tom Ford trench if you want a piece you will wear forever.  Throw it over a white tee and jeans or it can look chic for dinner out over your little black dress and heels.   Speaking of the LBD.  I specialize in finding the perfect LBD for anyone.  Come see me and let’s find the perfect one for you!  Happy closet curating!

Fashionably,

Kristen
