"Money talks, wealth whispers" Quiet Luxury is becoming the biggest fashion trend. Whether it came from a Bottega Veneta runway show or from binge-watching HBO’s Succession. Quiet Luxury is taking over the luxury fashion world. Forbes recently took a deep dive into the tastes and choices of luxury consumers by surveying 250 high-net-worth individuals with at least $2M in investable assets. 63% of those polled reported that understated luxury pieces are more desirable and serve as a loftier status symbol than visible luxury items. Consider a battered Hermes Kelly bag or a Max Mara investment coat thrown over an ancient pair of vintage jeans. It’s more of a mood than anything else. It’s a look that will stand the test of time. Start with a Proenza Schouler cinched-waist blazer, layer pieces from Brunello Cuccinelli or The Row, add a Bottega Veneta handbag featuring their famous Intreciatto woven leather, and top it off with a Tom Ford trench coat. No big logos stand out to the uneducated fashion individual, but the way you walk, the way you carry yourself in that look, personifies confidence and luxury style.
My current favorite designer would be at the top of anyone’s list looking for quiet luxury, or ‘stealth wealth’ as I have heard it called. Brunello Cucinelli, or better known as the King of Cashmere, grew up as a farmer where he learned a love of the land. Sustainability and preserving human dignity are his company mantras, and instead of going to the cultural meccas of Italy, he chose Solomeo, a small village near Umbria, to be the setting for his company’s vision. He rebuilt and restored the village to create a home environment for the people who work for him. Half of the people who live in the village work for the designer. He pays them more than most make in the industry, and the brand uses only the finest natural materials, such as cashmere, silk and linen, which are sourced from responsible and ethical suppliers. True, you will pay more for a Brunello Cucinelli cashmere sweater. The cashmere is sourced from the inner underfleece of the Hircus goat and is hand-crafted by skilled artisans. Mark Zuckerberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Lawrence are just a few of his fans for good reason.
Come see me at The Re-Find Designer and see for yourself. I promise, once you try on a BC cashmere sweater, or a pair of pants designed and crafted by Brunello Cucinelli, you will never look back. His sweaters retail for $2000-$3000 but at The Re-find Designer, they are a fraction of that and will become a true investment piece in your closet for many years to come.
